Free and open to the public, the Conservatory offers visitors a lush escape into nature with three distinct indoor showrooms — the Mediterranean Room, Tropical Room, and Desert Room — each showcasing a diverse collection of plants from around the world. Outside, the urban gardens continue the experience with native Illinois landscapes featured in the Elsie Jacobsen Discovery Garden and Rubinstein Garden. Sweeps of prairie grasses and native blooms welcome you at the entrance, inviting you to slow down and explore this hidden oasis in the heart of the village. Owned and operated by the Park District of Oak Park, the Conservatory provides year-round opportunities to connect with nature through programs, events, and community initiatives. ELMHURST, IL – A man and a woman were arrested last week after they were found to be engaging in a sexual act in a Nissan Altima in Elmhurst, police said. The 44-year-old Lombard woman was charged with prostitution, while the 46-year-old Des Plaines man was charged with solicitation of a sexual act, police said The incident occurred about 12:30 p.m. Thursday near the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers union hall at 660 Industrial Drive, police said. The man was released, while the woman was taken to the DuPage County Jail. During the incident, police arrested a 51-year-old Bellwood man, who was wanted on a DuPage County theft warrant. He was taken to the county jail.

The Voices of Hope Community Chorus welcomes singers of all experience levels and voice parts! Whether you’ve sung in a choir for years, are returning to singing after some time away, or simply love to sing and want to try something new, we’d love to have you join us.
We are especially looking for Tenors and Basses, but singers of every voice part are welcome!
Voices of Hope is a caring community of singers who celebrate the joy of music while embracing hope, support, friendship, and connection for those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer. No matter your level of experience, if our mission resonates with you, we invite you to be part of our chorus.
Fall rehearsals begin Thursday, August 27, as we prepare for concerts in mid-November.

Twenty-five years after the attacks of September 11th, Invisible Wounds Foundation marks that anniversary with our 2026 Evening of Honor, featuring special guest Martha Raddatz, ABC News Chief Global Affairs Correspondent and co-anchor of This Week, and author of the New York Times bestseller The Hero Next Door, recognizing the courage, patriotism, and commitment of those who have served our country.
Raddatz will interview Dr. Rocco Armonda, an internationally renowned neurosurgeon, retired US Army colonel, and member of IWF's Medical Scientific Advisory Council, whose work is also featured in The Hero Next Door. They'll discuss his experience treating military and civilian victims of traumatic brain injury in Ukraine and other conflicts. Emmy-winning ABC 7 Chicago anchor Mark Rivera, who has interviewed Raddatz on air, serves as our master of ceremonies.
The evening begins with a 5:00pm cocktail reception at the Morton Arboretum's open-air Firefly Pavilion, followed by dinner and program at 6:30. We'll share inspiring stories of patriotism and purpose, and the critical work Invisible Wounds Foundation is pursuing to help our nation's warfighters address the invisible wounds of war. Every guest will receive a signed copy of Raddatz's book, The Hero Next Door.
