Rash Of Retail Theft Cases In Elmhurst; Some Rise To Burglary Charges

Among the stolen items were fragrances, candy bars, shavers and alcohol, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst saw a rash of retail theft charges in the last few days, with suspects ranging from 27 to 76. In some cases, suspects were also charged with burglary. Here is information from the cases:

  • Jose Pacheco Flores, 36, and Jose Lozano Mandujano, 33, both of Nampa, Idaho, were arrested about 2 p.m. Wednesday on charges of burglary, retail theft, and possession of counterfeit goods. Police said the men stole multiple fragrance items at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. They were also found to have several pieces of counterfeit Apple products and other fragrances, police said. They were taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • Patryk Karaluch, 32, of Streamwood, was arrested about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on charges of burglary, retail theft and obstructing an officer. The incident occurred at Jewel, 944 S. York St., police said. Karaluch was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • Kerry Jones, 54, of Bellwood, was arrested about 12:30 p.m. Monday on charges of burglary and theft. Police said he stuffed a backpack full of alcohol at Jewel, 944 S. York St. Jones was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
  • A 57-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 500 block of West Lorraine Avenue was arrested Monday on a retail theft charge. Police said the man concealed a bottle of vodka in his backpack at Jewel, 153 E. Schiller St. In another case, a 32-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 100 block of North Addison Avenue was arrested on a retail theft charge at the same store, accused of hiding small vodka bottles in his shorts. His offense occurred about 12:20 p.m., about 10 minutes before the older man's, police said. Both men were released.
  • A 76-year-old Lombard man was arrested about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on a retail theft charge. Police said he stole two Fannie May candy bars at Jewel, 944 S. York St. The man was released.
  • A 39-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both of Des Plaines, were arrested about 6 p.m. Wednesday at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83, on retail theft charges. Police said the duo stole two Philips Norelco shavers. The suspects were taken to the DuPage County Jail.
