Resignation Pact With D-205 Leader Approved

One benefit is set to continue after the superintendent's departure.

ELMHURST, IL — The Elmhurst School District 205 board on Wednesday approved a resignation agreement with Superintendent Dave Moyer, who is leaving three months earlier than expected.

At a special meeting, the board took less than three minutes on the issue. Moyer, who started six years ago, was not present.

School board President Kara Caforio read a short statement announcing the agreement. Moyer's last day is next Wednesday.

Under the agreement, Moyer's pay and benefits will stop after his last day, Caforio said. An exception is his health insurance, which will last through June 30, his original agreed-upon resignation date, she said. He is also set to get his unpaid vacation time.

"The board reiterates its best wishes for Dr. Moyer and its appreciation for his dedication to increasing and improving learning opportunities for students and staff of District 205," Caforio said.

Other than Caforio's statement, board members offered no sentiments about Moyer and proceeded to vote unanimously for the agreement.

The district announced Moyer's early resignation in a public statement Monday. He had planned to resign at the end of June to take a superintendent's job near Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Caforio said Moyer signed the agreement Monday.

The announcement of Moyer's resignation came six days after protesters chanted outside a school board meeting, "Moyer must go!" In Monday's statement, the district said Moyer wanted time to get settled in New York.

Many parents were upset over what they saw as the slow pace of returning to in-person learning. Last week, the board approved a regular, in-person schedule starting April 12.

Elmhurst Patch filed a public records request Thursday morning for a copy of Moyer's resignation agreement. The district can take up to five business days to produce the document for the public to examine.

On Thursday, the school board is expected to appoint Linda Yonke, former superintendent of New Trier High School and former principal of York High School, as the interim superintendent. She would remain for the rest of the school year or until a new superintendent can assume the role.

Yonke is one of the consultants with Oak Park-based School Exec Connect, which is helping the district recruit a new superintendent. The board is expected to make a decision on a new superintendent next month.
