Roof On Fire, Family Dispute: Burr Ridge Cops

Workers using a blowtorch while repairing a leak accidentally caused a fire, police say.

BURR RIDGE, IL — In recent days, Burr Ridge police have responded to calls involving a roof fire, a family dispute, a neighborhood tree issue, a drunk man disturbing a wedding and a noisy generator. Here is information from the latest reports:

Fire calls

  • Workers on South County Line Road accidentally set fire to the northeast corner of a roof with a blowtorch while repairing a leak about 12:30 p.m. Oct. 14. Pleasantview Fire Protection District and other fire departments responded. No one was injured.
  • Police responded to a house on Grant Court because of a fire alarm about 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14. The homeowner told police that it was activated because of smoke from cooking. He then told officers to get off his property because he didn't ask them to respond.

  • Police received a call Oct. 17 about a tree being cut down in the island on Enclave Court. The man who had just finished cutting the tree said he was the Enclave Association president and that it was decided at the group's last meeting to cut it down because it was dying. He said he cut the tree himself because he had more than 30 years of experience with a chainsaw.
  • A resident complained about a semi-truck running its power generator about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 18 near the 8400 block of Meadowbrook Drive. An officer spoke with the driver, who was in the sleeper cab. He said he would turn off the generator for the night.

Family dispute

  • A man told police Oct. 13 that his brother changed the locks on their recently deceased parents' house on Madison Street. The man was recently served a temporary order of protection and was unclear whether he was allowed at the house. An officer advised the man to see an attorney.

Dog at large

  • An officer saw a German shepherd near German Church and South County Line roads about 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14. He was unable to catch the dog after it ran down Steepleside Drive. The dog's owner on German Church Road was notified that her dog was at large. A half hour later, the dog was found and turned over to the owner, who was warned for having a dog at large.

Drunkenness

  • Police were called about 12:30 a.m. Oct. 18 about an intoxicated man at the Marriott, 1200 Burr Ridge Parkway. He was vomiting in the lobby and disturbing a wedding party. The man said he wanted to go home. Police called Pleasantview firefighters, who determined the man was not a danger to himself. The manager said the man could stay at the hotel as long as he stayed in his room.

Odds and ends

  • A landscaper accidentally damaged a car with a lawn mower about 3 p.m. Oct. 14 in the 7000 block of High Grove Boulevard. There was minor damage to the front passenger side bumper.
  • A resident told police he lost his phone while riding his bicycle on the path behind Chasemoor on Oct. 13. An officer called the phone, and the resident's wife answered and said a neighbor returned the phone.
  • Two officers saw a transformer blow about 11 p.m. Oct. 16 at 79th Street and Garfield Avenue. There was no fire, and everyone appeared to have power in the area.
