Sandbags Available for Elmhurst Residents

The Elmhurst Streets Division is preparing pallets of sandbags for residents to pick up in preparation for today’s storm.

There are also sandbags, shovels and a pile of sand available for residents to fill additional bags after hours, according to the city. These materials are available in the parking lot of the Public Works Garage.

Low-lying areas and inlets have been checked, and several cycles of city street sweeping are complete. Residents can help the city by keeping inlets clear of debris.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the entire Chicago area until 3 p.m. Northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin are in the “enhanced risk” category for today’s storm.
