School Harassed, Scammers Charged: Elmhurst Cops
A local school received harassing emails from a former student, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving harassing emails to a school, scam suspects, trespassing at a gas station, DUI, a stolen ring and a theft at a gym. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:
Harassing emails
- Timothy Christian Schools, 1051 S. Prospect Ave., told police that a former student sent numerous harassing emails on Monday and Tuesday. An investigation is pending.

- Helen Miller, 51; Sheila Miller, 47; and Alex Miller, 26, all of Rolling Meadows, were cited about 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of West Lake on illegal transient merchant violations. According to a police report, a victim said he was approached by the suspects, who offered to do concrete painting and repaving for the victim's business. They were known to be involved in traveler scams. They were given a no-trespass notice and released on bond.
Trespassing
- Latrell King, 30, of Westmont, was arrested at 5 a.m. Tuesday at Shell gas station, 218 E. Butterfield, on a charge of trespassing. According to a police report, officers received a report of a suspicious person, identified as King inside Shell. Officers served King with a trespass notice. King returned moments later in violation of the notice. He was released on bond.
DUI

- Joanna Pruszynski, 26, of Downers Grove, was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Addison and Grantley on charges of DUI, driving with a suspended license and improper lane usage. She was released on bond.
Identity theft
- A resident in the 300 block of East St. Charles Road told police this week that someone used her personal information to open several bank and credit card accounts.
Stolen ring
- The daughter of a resident in the 1000 block of Euclid told police Monday that someone stole the resident's diamond and sapphire ring between April 12 and April 13. An investigation is pending.
Converter theft
- A man told police that he went to U-Stor-It, 877 S. Route 83, to check on his RV. He discovered the catalytic converter missing from the vehicle. The theft happened between April 5 and April 25.
Theft at gym
- Someone stole cash and credit cards from a man's secured gym locker between noon and 1 p.m. Monday at LA Fitness, 620 N. York St. The victim contacted his bank and was told about a transaction attempt. The transaction was declined, and the victim was able to cancel his credit cards.
Order of protection
- A resident in the 800 block of South Spring Road was served Monday with an order of protection from Cook County.
Fired worker
- A man was fired April 8 from MLE Inc., 540 Lamont Road, but he failed to return the company's vehicle. An investigation is pending.
Stolen watch
- A woman removed her Series 4 Apple Watch about 3 p.m. Monday at Elmhurst Center for Health, 1200 S. York St. She left the watch in the changing room and forgot it upon leaving. The watch was not turned in.
Fugitives
- About 5 a.m. Monday, an officer saw a car near Cedar and Concord that was believed to have been involved in a burglary in Villa Park, where two cars were stolen from a dealership. The vehicle in question was determined to have been stolen in Chicago. Moments later, two vehicles were seen by officers fleeing the area, last seen heading east on Roosevelt Road.
- An officer stopped a vehicle believed to have been involved in felony theft and battery of a police officer in Oak Brook. As the officer spoke with the woman, she sped away. She was described as black, 24 years old, 5-foot-4 and having black dreadlocks.
- Officers stopped a car about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lake and Interstate 294 for tinted windows. The suspects became uncooperative while speaking with officers and refused to get out of the car. The driver sped away, last seen heading north on Interstate 294. An investigation is pending.
- An officer tried to stop a gray Dodge Challenger about 2 a.m. Thursday at West and North. The driver sped away, last seen heading east on Interstate 290. An investigation is pending.
Fight
- A physical confrontation occurred between a nurse and a patient Tuesday in the 100 block of West Diversey Avenue. Both the nurse and patient suffered minor injuries. An investigation is pending.
Burglary
- A suspect forced entry into the front glass door at Walgreens, 160 N. Robert Palmer Ave., about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. An employee confronted the suspect, who drove away in a gray Land Rover. The case is pending.
Car wash theft
- A woman told police Wednesday her gray magnetic phone charger was missing from her car after she went to My Car Wash, 459 Spring Road. She said she did not want to file a complaint.
Driving violations
- Luis Daniel Andrade-Lopez, 40, of Hanover Park, was cited about 1 a.m. Monday in the 900 block of North York on charges of no valid driver's license, improper turn, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of open alcohol in a motor vehicle. He was released on bond.
- Victoria Leal, 50, of Elmwood Park, was cited about 3 a.m. Monday at North and Route 83 on charges of no valid driver's license and failure to signal. She was released on bond.
- Devonne Polk Jr., 22, of Calumet City, was cited about 4:30 p.m. Monday at Route 83 and St. Charles on charges of driving with a suspended license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, tinted windows, expired registration and no seat belt. He was released on bond.
- Collin Miller, 29, of Milwaukee, was cited about 8 p.m. Monday at Route 83 and Elizabeth on charges of driving with a suspended license, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, driving with expired license plates and driving while using a phone. He was released on bond.
