ELMHURST, IL – York High School students and staff have raised more than $25,000 to support Special Olympics Illinois athletes, the school said.

It is on track to raise the highest amount of the participating teams, the school said. The public can still help.

On Friday, York held the "Cool School Challenge," which is part of the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge.

A total of 47 participants dove head-first into ice-cold pools at the school's stadium, according to a school news release.

This was the first time York took part.

Schools can raise money through March 28 for the Cool School Challenge.

People can donate to York's effort online.
