See Who D-205 Leader Blocks On Twitter

Some were excluded from official account after they criticized Moyer for his "take your mask off" tweets.

ELMHURST, IL — Two weeks ago, Patch requested the list of those who Dave Moyer, superintendent of the Elmhurst public schools, was blocking on Twitter. The school district provided the information Tuesday.

Late last month, Patch came across a number of Twitter users who said they were blocked from Moyer's official superintendent account (@lifeandlifeonly), which is tied to the District 205 website. A few provided Patch with screenshots indicating they were blocked.

Some users found themselves blocked after they took Moyer to task for advising one of the district's teachers on Twitter to take off her mask while she was in her classroom leading Zoom class sessions. She shares her room with other employees, which means taking off her mask would violate health guidelines, the Twitter users said. Moyer later deleted his tweets and was criticized for the messages at last week's school board meeting.

The district's list shows that Moyer has blocked 17 accounts, including a number of Elmhurst residents and at least one local teacher, Catherine Disterheft, a Spanish teacher at York. He also has excluded the director of technology from another school district.

Patch emailed Moyer on Wednesday, asking him about his standards for blocking people from his official account. He did not immediately respond.
