Sex Offender In Elmhurst Fitness Center Arrested: Cops

In another case, a man was charged with electronic harassment involving an Elmhurst woman, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In recent days, Elmhurst police arrested people on charges of being a sex offender in a park building, electronic harassment and DUI. Here is Elmhurst's latest arrest log:

Sex offender in park building

  • Christopher Matthews, 66, of Glen Ellyn, was arrested shortly before noon Monday on a charge of being a sexual predator in a public park building. He was in the Elmhurst Park District's Courts Plus fitness center, 186 S. West Ave., police said. He was placed on the sex offender registry in 2001 after being convicted of 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to state records. The victim was reported to be 12. In Monday's incident, Matthews was released.

  • A 26-year-old Lombard man was arrested Monday on an electronic harassment charge. An Aug. 21 incident involved a victim in the 100 block of North Clinton Avenue, police said. Police said the man sent threatening and inappropriate messages to a woman via social media. He was released.

DUI

  • A 19-year-old Elmhurst man who lives in the 100 block of North Elm Avenue was arrested about 10 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of North Walnut Street on charges of DUI, failure to give information to an owner after striking an unattended vehicle or property, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, failure to report an accident to police and damage to city property. Police said the man fled a crash. He was taken to the police department and then released.
  • A 27-year-old River Grove man was arrested about 11 p.m. Saturday at 167 Route 83 on charges of DUI and failure to yield when turning left. He was taken to the police department and then released.
