'Shark Tank' Star Headed To Elmhurst

The star plans to focus on diversity during local visit.

ELMHURST, IL — Daymond John, an original co-star on the "Shark Tank" television show, will speak about diversity during a visit to Elmhurst.

On Sept. 23, John is set to present "Diversity: A Good Business Practice" for this year's Roland Quest Lecture at Elmhurst University. It's considered a highlight of the school's 150th anniversary celebrations.

In the early 1990s, John capitalized on hip-hop culture and launched the FUBU clothing company from his mother's house in Queens, according to a university news release. In 2009, John joined "Shark Tank," a four-time Emmy Award-winning show.

John's local presentation is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 in Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel at the university, 190 E. Prospect Ave. Admission is $15 for the public and free for Elmhurst University students, faculty, staff and alumni.

After the event, John plans to sign copies of his bestselling book, "Power Shift." Tickets are available by visiting the university's website.
