Sky Zone Theft, Officer Bitten: Elmhurst Cops

Two teens steal water guns from others last weekend at Sky Zone, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving a bitten officer, a theft at Sky Zone, a necklace theft, a domestic disturbance, a gift card scam, the burglary of an unlocked car and a battery, among other incidents. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Necklace theft

  • A man told police Saturday that he was approached by a woman at Kohl's, 303 S. Route 83. She placed a necklace on his neck while also removing his gold chain. She left in a white Ford Explorer, which was seen heading north through the parking lot. An investigation is pending. The woman was described as Asian, 30 to 50 years old, having black or brown hair, and possibly wearing a black shirt. Another woman involved was described as Asian, 40 to 50, and having black hair and an average build.

  • While investigating a crash, an officer was bitten by a dog about 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Crescent and Fairview. The officer suffered minor injuries.

Sky Zone theft

  • A theft took place about 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Sky Zone, 325 W. Lake St. The victims told police they were approached by two suspects who asked to borrow the victims' toy water guns. The suspects kept the guns and left in a black Ford Focus and a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo. One of them shot a water pellet at one of the victims. An investigation is pending. The suspects were described as black males, 18 to 20 years old, 5-foot-10 and having slim builds. One of them was wearing a green hat with the letter "A." The other possibly had dreadlocks.

Domestic disturbance

  • Police responded to a domestic disturbance about 4 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of North West Avenue. A female said she got into an argument with a family member. She said she tried to close the back door, but the family member pushed it open and hit her with his right hand. The other person denied striking the female. Because of conflicting stories, no arrests were made.

Sexual assault

  • An officer spoke with a Highland Park Hospital nurse Thursday about a woman who reported she was sexually assaulted somewhere in Elmhurst. The woman did not want to speak with the police. No information on the suspect was provided.

License plate theft

  • A car with a stolen license plate was found Thursday in the parking lot at Jewel, 944 S. York St. The driver was unaware a different plate was on his car. The license plate was seized, and the driver was released.

Gift card scam

  • A resident in the 800 block of South Prospect received a phone call March 15 from someone claiming to be from Amazon and stating the resident had fraudulent activity on his account. The resident bought a Target gift card and provided the caller with the information. The resident later checked his other accounts and found several fraudulent purchases. The resident then closed the affected accounts.

Identity theft

  • A resident in the 100 block of East Vallette Street told police Thursday that someone made a fraudulent purchase on her Discover card on Jan. 15. An investigation is pending.

Clarinet gone

  • A woman told police Thursday that someone stole her son's clarinet Feb. 4 from Field Elementary School, 295 N. Emroy.

Unlocked car burglary

  • A woman told police that someone entered her unlocked Enterprise rental car between 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Fry the Coop, 632 W. North Ave., and stole her medication from the front passenger seat. It happened March 8.

Battery

  • An intoxicated man told police that he was struck in his driveway about 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of North Geneva Avenue. He said he fell to the ground but was unable to get the suspect's information or direction of travel.

Converter theft

  • A catalytic converter was stolen overnight Thursday from a Mitsubishi Outlander parked at Courtyard by Marriott, 370 N. Route 83.

Cars damaged

  • An employee at Superior Ambulance, 333 W. Lake St., said two of the company's vehicles were damaged overnight Friday. The next day, the rear hatch window to a Toyota Sienna was shattered and the front windshield of a Ford Transit was broken. The area's surveillance cameras were checked, but nothing was found.

Death

  • Police responded to an incident involving an unconscious man on the floor about 2 p.m. Saturday at Semblex Corp., 900 N. Church Road. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 3 p.m.

Retail theft

  • A man stole seven boxes of over-the-counter medication and left without paying about 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Mariano's, 678 N. York St. He was described as 21 to 35 years old, 5-foot-10, 165 pounds, and wearing a hat, mask and long black coat.

Inadvertent damage

  • A woman told police about 6 p.m. Saturday that her car was inadvertently damaged as a paramedic stretcher was being moved.

Driving violations

  • Edgar Casa, 27, of Glendale Heights, was cited about 7 a.m. Saturday at Schiller and York on charges of driving with a revoked license, unlawful possession of marijuana by a driver and possession of open alcohol. He was stopped after driving the wrong way on a street. He was found to have two packages of marijuana and a marijuana grinder, police said. He was released on bond.
  • Tajai Allen, 27, of Bellwood, was cited about 1:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Charles and Spring on a charge of driving with a suspended license. Allen was released on bond.

Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and people charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
