Someone Sneaks Into Elmhurst House, Steals Wallet: Cops

In another case, a domestic battery was reported at an Elmhurst medical facility.

ELMHURST, IL – In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a burglary, domestic battery, a gun offense, retail theft, a shattered window, a fugitive driver and DUI. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports:

Burglary

  • A resident in the 500 block of South Hawthorne Avenue told police that someone came into the house about 3 a.m. Monday through the unlocked back door. The suspect stole a wallet and cash. An investigation is pending.

  • A 56-year-old Maywood woman was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on two domestic battery counts. Police said the woman attacked others during an argument at Bella Terra Elmhurst nursing home, 420 W. Butterfield Road. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Warrant

  • A 32-year-old Elmhurst woman who lives in the 4400 block of North Emery Lane was arrested about 9 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant. She turned herself in at the police station. Local police had accused her of driving with a suspended or revoked license. She was released.

  • James Jernigan, 61, of Cicero, was arrested about 4 a.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of North Michigan Street on one count of possession of a firearm by a felon and three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.

Retail theft

  • A 28-year-old Chicago man was arrested shortly before midnight Wednesday on a retail theft count. Police said the man stole a 12-pack and 24-pack of Modelo beer at CVS Pharmacy, 110 W. North Ave. They said he was found with the stolen beer outside the store. He was released.

Theft

  • A resident in the 400 block of North Maple Avenue told police Monday about receiving an envelope in the mail that had already been opened. It had contained two gift cards.

Shattered window

  • A car's driver's side window was shattered Monday in the 900 block of North Virginia Street. Nothing was reported stolen.

Fugitive driver

  • An officer tried to stop the driver of a car that had been reported stolen in Chicago, but the driver did not stop. The officer saw the driver about 2 a.m. Wednesday at Interstate 290 and Roosevelt Road. The driver was last seen at I-290 and Mannheim Road.

DUI

  • A 40-year-old Chicago man was arrested about 3:30 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Road and Route 83 on charges of DUI, driving an uninsured car, possession of alcohol by a driver, failure to wear a seatbelt, illegal stopping or standing where prohibited, and disobeying a traffic control device. Police said the man was found asleep behind the wheel. He was taken to the police station and then released.
  • A 51-year-old Chicago man was arrested about noon Wednesday at North and Myrtle avenues on charges of DUI (drugs), using marijuana in a car and possessing marijuana in a car. He was taken to the police station and then released.
  • A 22-year-old Glenview man was arrested about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Road and Fair Avenue on charges of DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, improper lane usage, driving an uninsured car and possession of open alcohol by a driver. He was taken to the police station and then released.
  • A 21-year-old Berkeley man was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at North and Clinton avenues on charges of DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash. He was taken to the police station and then released.

Drug possession

  • A 64-year-old Wood Dale man was arrested about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Street and Interstate 290 on two counts of possession of a controlled substance. He was stopped for speeding. He was taken to the DuPage County Jail.
