Students Celebrate Math At Hawthorne Elementary Pi Recital
The top reciter, Laina Drabic, a 2nd grader, memorized 206 digits and took first place among her classmates.
ELMHURST, IL — Hawthorne Elementary School hosted its 7th Annual Pi Recital and celebrated by challenging students to stretch their brains and memorize as many digits of Pi as they could. The district said nearly 100 students, kindergarten through fifth grade, participated in the recital. Of the 100 participants, 80 students recited 20 or more digits and will be recognized by the International Pi Registry located in Germany.
The top reciter, Laina Drabic, a 2nd grader, memorized 206 digits and took first place among her classmates.
According to the district, the top 14 reciters (and the number of digits they memorized) were: Kailin Mendiola (201), Saveen Shah (197), Michael Dorko (151), Alexa Klein (144), Libby Donaldson (136), Jaiden Shah (136), Owen Drabic (126), Matthew Lizak (123), Stella Rosso (121), Jamie Fulco (117), Evan Carry (107), Ali Zainulabideen (88), and Nico Cortez (82).

The Pi Recital is organized by Geri Sorrentino, REACH teacher at Hawthorne Elementary School.
