Editor's note: Thank you to Elmhurst Soccer Club for submitted this recap of Saturday's game.
The Team Elmhurst U14 girls won the Glen Ellyn Park District Indoor Soccer Championship 6-0 over Club Synergy on Saturday, April 7. Both teams met previously in winter league play, resulting in a tie and a 2-1 win for Elmhurst. Elmhurst also finished the indoor season undefeated.
Through the first 16 minutes of play, Elmhurst controlled most of the game with strong passing and positioning. TESC’s first goal came off a Shannon Hansen corner kick across center for the chip in by Tia Diaz. Then, with less than a minute remaining in the first half, Annie Perez scored to give Elmhurst a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Elmhurst stayed aggressive by being first to the ball and seizing opportunities with goals coming off a throw-in, rebounds and deflections coming out of Synergy’s defense and solid shots outside of the box. Other scores were contributed by Katie Kesslering and Laurel Tompos. Securing the shut out win for Elmhurst at Keeper were Madison Casey and Abby Horn.
All Elmhurst players contributing to the championship and undefeated season included: Katie Boots, Tia Diaz, Madison Casey, Shannon Hansen, Abby Horn, Katie Kesslering, Maggie Milkowski, Toni Paterno, Emily Patterson, Annie Perez, Abril Rojas and Laurel Tompos.
Elmhurst was coached by Team Parent Dave Hansen.
