Teen Arrested In Elmhurst Shooting: Authorities
The shots were fired in a local neighborhood, with two people running away when an officer showed up, police said.

ELMHURST, IL – A 16-year-old boy who fired six to eight gunshots in an Elmhurst neighborhood late Tuesday night was arrested, authorities said.
About 11:45 p.m., Elmhurst police were called about the gunshots. An officer saw two people about two blocks from the caller's home, according to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors.
Upon seeing the officer's car, the people ran away. Officers pursued them, with one of the officers seeing the boy cast aside an object, later determined to be a Glock 17 9mm pistol, police said.

A DuPage County judge granted prosecutors' request to detain the youth.
"The allegations that in the middle of the night, the defendant was allegedly illegally in possession of a handgun in a residential neighborhood are disturbing," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in the news release. "This type of alleged behavior is extremely dangerous, and we are all very grateful that no one was injured or killed as a result of a stray bullet."
The release did not say where the incident happened.
Authorities said the investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to call Elmhurst police at 630-530-3050.
