There are several stores and services closed on Thanksgiving Day.

ELMHURST, IL — Thanksgiving Day is quickly approaching, and since many stores and services are closed that Thursday, it's best to take care of shopping or errands before the big day. This year, Thanksgiving is Nov. 23, with Black Friday following on Nov. 24. Many stores and government services are either closed or have shortened hours on either of those days. If you're heading out to shop, it's best to call ahead in case hours have changed. Here's what will be closed, or open, in Elmhurst on Thanksgiving.

Post office: Post offices will be closed on Thanksgiving, but will be open regular hours on Friday.

Elmhurst Public Library: The library will be closed all day on Thanksgiving, but will reopen on Friday for normal hours.

Garbage Collection: There will be no garbage pickup on Thanksgiving in Elmhurst. Thursday pickup will be delayed by one day.

Jewel Osco: Call ahead if you're looking at a different location, but Jewel Osco will be open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Banks: Most major banks are closed on Thanksgiving, but most will be open regular hours on Friday. Double-check with your bank before heading out.

Elmhurst School District 205: District 205 students will have no school Wednesday, Nov. 22; Thursday, Nov. 23 or Friday, Nov. 24. Elementary school students will also have no school on Tuesday, Nov. 21 due to conferences.

If you're looking to do some early Christmas shopping on Thanksgiving evening, be aware that many Illinois stores will be closed. Several have confirmed they will be closed all day on Thursday.
