Three Elmhurst Students Named National Merit Scholars
Two students from IC Catholic Prep and one student from York High School have been named as merit scholars.

ELMHURST, IL — This year's National Merit $2,500 scholarship winners have been announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, and several Elmhurst students are among the winners. Two students from IC Catholic Prep and one student from York High School have been named as merit scholars.
According to a release, the 2,500 merit scholar winners were chosen from more than 15,000 outstanding finalists.
The merit scholars from Elmhurst are:

- Robert Vitek, from Elmhurst, student at IC Catholic Prep. Probable career field: Electrical Engineering.
- Kaitlyn Grady, from Elmhurst, student at IC Catholic Prep. Probable career field: Chemical Engineering.
- Amelia O'Halloran, from Elmhurst, student at York Community High School. Probable career field: Computer Science.
National Merit Scholarship Corporation said these Scholars were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors, who appraised a substantial amount of information submitted by both the finalists and their high schools: the academic record, including difficulty level of subjects studied and grades earned; scores from two standardized tests; contributions and leadership in school and community activities; an essay written by the finalist; and a recommendation written by a high school official.
