On June 11th, United Healthcare employees from the Schaumburg office, volunteered to deliver meals to seniors served by the DuPage Senior Citizen Council (DSCC) Home Delivered Meal/“Meals on Wheels” service in observation of National Service Month in June. Chad Koenekamp, Lisa Henry, Irma Toro-Elliot, Fred Miller, and Joe Gladis met at the Bloomingdale Township Senior Center to pick up and deliver meals to frail and homebound seniors. DSCC utilizes Bloomingdale Township Senior Center as a meal distribution site for their Home Delivered Meal/”Meals on Wheels” service for seniors living in Bloomingdale, Roselle, Itasca, Hanover Park, and Bartlett.
DSCC is a leading senior nutrition provider and senior advocate and provides seniors in DuPage and in Kane County with a warm, healthy, and nutritious meal. The meal is also accompanied by a Well-Being Check and friendly conversation. DSCC’s Home Delivered Meal/”Meals on Wheels” service combats not only senior hunger and food insecurity, but also the isolation and depression that is common for homebound seniors. DSCC’s services provide a safety net for elderly seniors in need, and DSCC has been credited with saving the lives of several individuals.
Chad Koenekamp from United Healthcare stated that he was glad he reached out to Volunteer Program Director Cathy Jordan and was able to coordinate a date for United Healthcare to volunteer.

Chad stated “I really enjoyed meeting and working with the regular DSCC volunteers I was partnered up with and enjoyed talking with the seniors and learning a little more about their lives.” Chad is hoping that he can make volunteering with DSCC a more common occurrence.
DSCC and United Healthcare hope to work together in the future to provide services and education in DuPage and Kane Counties that will improve the quality of life for seniors.
