They were given conditions upon their release from custody, authorities said.

OAK BROOK, IL – Two men were arrested Monday in the theft of more than $1,700 worth of clothing from the Oak Brook Macy's store, authorities aid.

The men were identified as Abel Barrios-Estava, 20, and Rafael Mata-Torres, 25, who are both staying in Chicago, police said.

Store security took Barrios-Estava into custody, but he broke away and ran across 22nd Street, prosecutors said. Police then arrested him.

"The National Retail Federation estimates that retail theft cost businesses nationwide more than $112 billion last year, up from $96 billion in 2021," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release. "These losses cause significant financial hardship to businesses and their employees, higher prices for shoppers and loss of tax revenue for the entire community."

The men were charged with the felonies of burglary and retail theft.

They were released, but were outfitted with electronic monitoring devices and must refrain from entering any Macy's, police said.
