Villa Park Carjacking: 2 Men Arrested

VILLA PARK, IL — Two Chicago men are accused of pulling a woman out of her vehicle at gunpoint and then stealing her car in Villa Park, police said. The men are now in jail on a $2 million bond.

About 2 a.m. Tuesday, Kentrell Strong and Rayshawn Marshall, both 18, approached the 35-year-old woman, who was sitting in her Jeep Cherokee in her driveway on Ardmore Avenue, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

Wearing hoodies and face masks, one of the men asked her the time of day and then opened her door and pulled her out, prosecutors said. The other man pointed a gun at her face, then they stole her car, police said.

Elmhurst police officers saw the Jeep Cherokee on North Avenue and attempted to stop it. Instead, the men sped away, heading east on Interstate 290, police said.

Then officers from Hillside, Maywood, Bellwood, Berkeley and Broadview — all in Cook County — joined the chase. The suspects got off the expressway on the 25th Avenue ramp in Broadview and crashed, getting out and running away, police said. Broadview police officers caught them about 500 feet away from the Jeep Cherokee.

"In this case, a weapon was shown to our victim, leaving her visibly shaken and in great fear of bodily harm," Villa Park Police Chief Michael Rivas said in a statement. "This, or any other, stolen vehicle is then used at a later time to commit other violent crimes. This is why it is critically important to arrest people who commit this type of crime."

Strong and Marshall were charged with aggravated vehicular hijacking and aggravated possession of a motor vehicle.
