Voters approved a property tax hike for the Elmhurst Park District. The main project is replacing the Wagner Community Center.

ELMHURST, IL – The Elmhurst Park District plans to start construction on a new, expanded Wagner Community Center in 2026.
On Tuesday, 57 percent of the district's voters approved a property tax hike to pay back $90 million in debt. All but $6 million of that money is set to be spent on the community center.
In a statement Wednesday, the district said it plans to spend next year designing the center, along with other projects. Officials said they will make plans to temporarily move programs and services at Wagner during construction.

With the passage of the referendum, the property tax hike is projected to cost $317 a year for the owner of a house valued at $500,000, which is close to Elmhurst's median.
