Will York Prom-Goers Need Vaccine Cards?
The school intends for its prom to be in downtown Chicago, an official said.
ELMHURST, IL — York High School is planning its prom this spring for downtown Chicago, a school official said Wednesday.
That would mean prom-goers would be required to follow the city's mandate to show proof of coronavirus vaccinations to enter indoor venues. In other words, unvaccinated students would be unable to take part.
In an interview, Tonya Daniels, spokeswoman for Elmhurst School District 205, said the school is still finalizing its plans. Asked about Chicago's vaccination mandate, she said the school was looking at its options.

"We will follow the rules of whatever destination we end up at," Daniels said.
According to District 205, 56 percent of students district-wide are vaccinated. "Please keep in mind that some are not eligible for either age or medical or other reasons," Daniels said.

Hinsdale Central and South high schools have already scheduled their proms for downtown Chicago venues. Now, they say they are considering alternate sites, so all students can take part, regardless of vaccination status.
