Working Remotely In Elmhurst? See Local Percentage

The U.S. Census releases data on how people get to their workplaces.

ELMHURST, IL – Many Elmhurst residents only walk a few steps to go to work, avoiding costly, lengthy commutes.

According to a U.S. Census survey from 2023 to 2025, 23 percent of Elmhurst workers over 16 worked remotely.

Elmhurst is like other wealthier towns with many white-collar workers. These towns are above the Chicago-area workforce average of 16 percent.

Clarendon Hills is at 35 percent, with Hinsdale and La Grange following at about 30 percent.

Blue-collar towns have fewer remote workers. They include Joliet (8 percent) and Maywood (12 percent).

The U.S. Census also indicated that 8 percent of Elmhurst workers took public transit for their commutes. Nearby towns were similar, such as 12 percent in Hinsdale.

Chicago has among the highest rates in the United States, at 20 percent.
