York High Principal Leaving After 3 Years

She worked at Hinsdale Central before coming to Elmhurst.

ELMHURST, IL – York High School's principal, Jessica Hurt, is leaving after three years at the helm.

On Monday, the board for Aurora-based Indian Prairie School District 204 voted unanimously for Hurt as the new director of high school curriculum. She starts July 1.

Indian Prairie has three high schools – Matea Valley in Aurora, Neuqua Valley in Naperville and Waubonsie Valley in Aurora.

Combined, the three high schools serve 8,400 students, compared with 2,600 at York.

Hurt is replacing Mike Purcell, who left in January. He made $175,334 last school year, while Hurt's York salary was $200,000.

Patch emailed an inquiry to Indian Prairie about Hurt's pay.

Hurt attended the Indian Prairie board's meeting Monday. She told the board she was looking forward to joining the district, which she described as "prestigious."

She noted that both her mother-in-law and husband have worked for Indian Prairie.

Before coming to Elmhurst, Hurt was the assistant principal for curriculum at Hinsdale Central High School.

At York, Hurt replaced Shahe Bagdasarian, who became the Oak Lawn High School superintendent. He was York's principal for two years.

Hurt couldn't be reached for immediate comment Tuesday morning.
