York High Students To Walk Out, Protest ICE
Officials are preparing for the student-led march during school hours.

ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst officials are preparing for a proposed student-led march against ICE during school hours on Friday afternoon.
In a statement to Patch on Wednesday, the city and the local school district said they were aware of demonstrators planning to walk from York High School to Elmhurst's downtown.
"Our top priority is the safety of everyone involved, including students, residents, motorists, pedestrians, and local businesses," the entities said in the statement. "The Elmhurst Police Department will be present to support public safety, help manage traffic flow and minimize disruption to the community."

An Instagram page indicates that students are set to walk out after York High's seventh period, which starts at 1:20 p.m.
The page states that ICE is not welcome in District 205.

"Please call out the inaction of our elected leaders!" the page said. "The Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Addison and Bensenville mayors have all been (content) with ICE taking our neighbors."
The page also gives instructions on what to do if approached by the media. It said participants do not have to speak with reporters or can ask to remain anonymous.
It further advised students to beware of Fox News, Newsmax or social media influencers, who may "twist" words.
