York HS Ranked Among State's Best For 2018: US News

U.S. News & World Report released its annual list of best high schools in the country. See how York ranked.

ELMHURST, IL — U.S. News & World Report released its 2018 rankings of the best high schools in Illinois, and York Community High School is ranked 17th in the state, according to the magazine. York earned a silver medal, and is ranked 703 in the national rankings. The 2018 best high school rankings were released Wednesday and evaluate more than 20,500 public high schools.

U.S. News identified schools that best serve all students and assessed how prepared students are for college-level work. Schools are also recognized with gold, silver and bronze medals with gold indicating the greatest level of college readiness.

On its "scorecard," York received a college readiness index of 52 out of 100, a mathematics proficiency of 27 percent and a reading proficiency of 52 percent.

York improved its ranking by one spot from last year, when it was ranked 18th in the state. This year, York was right above St. Charles North High School and right below Neuqua Valley High School.
