York's Science Olympiad Team Takes Home 24 Medals at COD Regional Competition

The York Community High School Science Olympiad Team won 24 medals at a recent College of DuPage Competition.

ELMHURST, IL- York Community High School's Science Olympiad team won 24 medals at the College of DuPage Science Olympiad Regional Tournament.

The district said that although the team did not advance to the state competition, ten varsity and 14 junior varsity two-person teams earned medals. These following teams placed in the various events:

For varsity teams, Alex Johnson and Eric Doberstein won first place for Game On; Joey Gemini and Xander Hall won second place for Remote Sensing,; Eric Doberstein and Colin Kelley won second place in Rocks and Minerals; Peter and Grant Hartlage placed second for Dynamic Planet; Eric Doberstein and Siva Sreedhar placed third for Chem Lab; Noah Neidigh and Jack Chylstek won third place in Hovercraft; Jack Chlystek and Kevin Rachwalski won fifth place for Materials Science; Jason Lagundi and Josh Thomas placed sixth for Helicopters; Kevin Rackwalski and Collin Czech won sixth place for Robot Arm; and Kevin Rackwalski and Collin Czech also won sixth place for Wind Power.

For junior varsity, Peter and Grant Hartlage placed first for Remote Sensing; Dylan Mahoney and Gracie Chiampas won first place for Disease Detectives; Gracie Chiampas and Will Johnson won second place in Forensics; Jacob Wit and Joe Black placed second for Wind Power; Joey Gemini and Ruthvik Done won third place for Towers; Christian Glosner and Bozydar Kaszuba placed third for Rocks and Minerals; Caroline Collins and Maggie Clink placed third for Dynamic Planet; Emaan Mohsin and Elysia Woodward won third place in Ecology; Liam Warren, Christian Glosner, and Xander Hall placed third for Experimental Design; Stanley Xavier and Dylan Mahoney won third place for Anatomy and Physiology; Ruthvik Done and Connor Hanley placed third for Hovercraft; Ruthvik Done and Connor Hanley also placed third for Electric Vehicle; Hannah Maloy and Will Phillips won fourth place for Game On; and Joe Black and Liam Warren placed fourth for Robot Arm.

York science teachers Jeff Drach, Liz Ferhati and Jeremy Paschke serve as coaches to the York Science Olympiad team.
