Youth Arrested In Burglary In Elmhurst Neighborhood: Police

Five suspects scattered in different directions at Lake Street and Route 83, authorities said.

ELMHURST, IL – A youth who was involved in the burglaries of a garage and a car in an Elmhurst neighborhood was arrested Tuesday, local police said.

About 6:30 a.m. Monday, at least two people in a Porsche SUV got out and pulled on the door handles of three cars in the 500 block of West Gladys Avenue, according to an Elmhurst police news release.

One of them was recorded opening the unlocked driver's door of an SUV in a driveway and then using a remote door opener to open the garage door, police said. The person entered a car inside the garage.

A neighbor called 911, but the suspects had already left in the Porsche.

Police discovered the Porsche SUV had been stolen overnight in Lombard, although the owner was unaware of the theft, according to the news release.

Officers also learned a black Nissan Maxima sedan with dealer license plates was suspected of being involved in the theft of the Porsche, police said.

About 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Wood Dale police tried to stop the black Nissan, but the driver fled onto Lake Street. A Villa Park officer deployed a tire deflation device west of Route 83, police said. The car came to a stop a short while later.

At Lake and Route 83, five suspects ran away in different directions. Two suspects were apprehended by Elmhurst police near the highway ramps, the release said.

One of the suspects, a 17-year-old from Chicago, was involved in the burglaries on Gladys in Elmhurst, police said. He was charged with residential burglary and burglary to a motor vehicle.

Additional charges are pending, police said.

Police urged residents to lock their cars.
