EVANSTON, IL — An observant school resource officer helped apprehend a 15-year-old accused of robbing a younger teenager with a BB gun Tuesday afternoon, Evanston police said. The officer was driving in the 1000 block of Elmwood Avenue at around 3:45 p.m. when he saw a 13-year-old Evanston boy who appeared to be upset. Police said the officer spoke with the teen, who said while he was walking home from school, another youth came up behind him with a handgun and demanded the JBL speaker that was attached to the side of his book bag.
The victim told police the armed robber was wearing a black jacket and red hooded sweatshirt.
Detectives searching the area found a male juvenile matching that description walking in the 1400 block of Oak Avenue. When detectives pulled over to speak with him, he fled on foot, police said.
