2 ETHS Newspaper Staffers Honored by National Press Group
A senior cartoonist and former executive editor are both finalists in National Scholastic Press Association contests.
An Evanston Township High School senior and a recent graduate have both been named finalists in National Scholastic Press Association contests.

A current ETHS student, as well as a student from the Class of 2013, have been named finalists in the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) contests. The NSPA sponsors award programs in a variety of journalism categories to recognize exceptional individual work on school newspapers.
ETHS senior Milo Krimstein has been named a finalist for the NSPA’s 2013 Cartooning Awards. Krimstein is an entertainment writer and artist for the student-run newspaper The Evanstonian. The Cartooning Awards are co-sponsored by Universal Uclick and yielded more than 190 entries in the categories of Editorial Cartoon and Comic Panel/Strip. Entries were judged based on reader impact, community importance, artistic quality, originality and clarity of message.

Former Evanstonian executive editor Yoni Hirsch (’13) was also named as a finalist in the NSPA’s 2013 Story of the Year contest, for his story entitled "Saying Goodbye to Dajae Coleman." The contest is co-sponsored by The Headline Club, the Chicago chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. The contest honors student work in the following categories: News, Feature, Editorial, Sports and Diversity. The categories combined yielded more than 750 entries. Judges selected finalists based on value of story; quality of reporting and quotes; quality of writing and editing; and credibility and leadership.
Award winners (first through fifth places) and honorable mentions will be announced at the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention on November 16, 2013 in Boston. Comments from all judging teams will be published on the NSPA website (www.studentpress.org/nspa/) after the winners have been announced.
