PEER Services provides community-based substance use prevention and treatment services to teens, adults and families in Northern Cook County, including Evanston, Maine, New Trier, Niles and Northfield Townships, and the north side of Chicago. PEER Services reduces the harms of substance use, addiction and stigma by engaging youth and adults with innovative prevention programming and by supporting people on their path to recovery through holistic, evidence-based treatment. We provide affirming services to all in need, regardless of their ability to pay. Two Evanston beaches are closed today due to high bacteria, and one of them was one of two offering free access. According to a city memo, both Clark Street Beach and South Boulevard Beach are closed Monday to swimming due to bacteria. Clark Street and Dempster/Greenwood Street beaches were planned as "free beach day" locations both today and next Monday, August 31. Dempster/Greenwood Street beach remains open, as does Lighthouse Beach, Lee Street Beach, and both the sand and water areas of the Dog Beach.

Founded in 1983 by Lori Lippitz, Maxwell Street Klezmer Band has played at Carnegie Hall, toured Europe, and provided the soundtrack for Chicagoland’s Jewish celebrations for over 4 decades. The band marked its 40th “Bandiversary” at The Old Town School of Folk Music in 2023. The group is releasing a new live album as well as an educational band book series in 2026.&nbsp;
