3 Injured In Evanston House Fire On Colfax
One person was taken to hospital for possible smoke inhalation Sunday evening, fire officials said.

EVANSTON, IL — Three people were injured in a house fire Sunday in north Evanston, fire officials said. Firefighters were called to the 1900 block of Colfax Street shortly before 6 p.m. to extinguish a fire in the upstairs rear of a two-story home, according to the Evanston Fire Department. One person taken to the hospital for possible smoke inhalation and two others treated at the scene, and the fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of the initial call, the department said.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and moderate fire conditions in the back of the home. They were also informed that there was still an elderly couple inside.After entering the building, fire companies were confronted with heavy smoke conditions. Firefighters searched the house, found the couple and helped them out of the house.

There were no injuries to firefighters reported, as the alarm was upgraded to the box level and additional help from other towns was brought in. The Red Cross is assisting the affected homeowners with temporary living arrangements until their home is again deemed safe. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but no foul play is suspected, according to a news release from the Evanston Fire Department.
