4 Shot At Birthday Party In Howard Street Bar

CHICAGO, IL — Four men were shot during a birthday party at a crowded bar on Howard Street around 1:35 a.m Sunday when an unidentified man started shooting inside American Ale House, according to police.

Three survivors of the quadruple shooting were taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston from the bar, located at 2335 Howard St. on the corner of North Claremont Avenue. A fourth man walked into the hospital.

A 24-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was listed in critical condition. A 38-year-old man was also shot multiple times. His condition was listed as stable. A 54-year-old man was shot in the hip and was listed in stable condition. The fourth man, 42, had a graze wound on his arm.

Police said two of the four men shot were gang members. No one was immediately in custody.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene as dozens of partygoers rushing to the exit, the Chicago Tribune reported. One woman said she was thrown to the ground and trampled following the gunfire.

One man, who said the party had been thrown for his 42nd birthday, told the Tribune the shooting was ordinary.

“I’m from around here, so I see this all the time,” he said.
