7th Ward Ald. Jane Grover to Resign

Six-year council representative will take position with Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning at beginning of new year.

Evanston 7th Ward Alderperson Jane Grover will resign at the end of the year to become the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning’s (CMAP) Outreach Principal. She has been the ward’s representative since 2009.

“There is no better community than Evanston to do the important work of local public service and it has been a privilege and honor to serve,” said Grover. “I have loved this job. Thank you to Evanston residents for the opportunity, to our incomparable Mayor Tisdahl, my wonderful City Council colleagues, and this City’s extraordinary staff.”

Grover expanded in an e-mail to her constituents the same day of her announcement.

“I can say that the City of Evanston is without peers among municipalities,” she wrote. “We have an engaged and smart citizenry, a thoughtful and committed City Council, an incomparably wise Mayor, an extraordinary professional staff, and a City Manager who leads an organization that serves our residents with efficiency, innovation, and compassion, and attracts the best and the brightest.”

Grover went on to say the hiring of Wally Bobkiewicz as City Manager was “the best vote” she ever cast.

At the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, Grover will lead the agency’s engagement with regional elected officials, civic and business groups for its comprehensive and coordinated planning initiatives. The agency is the official regional planning organization for seven northeastern Illinois counties which developed and now guides implementation of metropolitan Chicago’s comprehensive regional plan, GO TO 2040.

“I look forward to serving our larger, regional community by helping to advance CMAP’s mission,” said Grover.

The city will release information on filling the 7th Ward vacancy at a later date.
