EVANSTON, IL — A former employee of an Evanston assisted living facility is accused of sexually abusing a resident, knowing they had a physical and intellectual disability, according to the Illinois Attorney General.
According to an indictment filed by Attorney General Kwame Raoul, 22-year-old Evanston resident Oscar Leon-Patino worked as a laundry aide at an assisted living facility in Evanston. The indictment alleges that Leon-Patino sexually abused a resident who was in the care of the facility.
“It is egregious for anyone to prey on an individual with a disability, especially someone tasked with providing services to those who cannot care for themselves,” Raoul said. “I remain committed to holding any individual responsible who abuses our most vulnerable residents.”
Leon-Patino was charged in Cook County Circuit Court with four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, two counts of criminal sexual abuse and one count of aggravated battery. He is currently detained and his next court date is scheduled for June 15.
The Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) is prosecuting this case following a referral from the Illinois Department of Public Health. The Evanston Police Department assisted the MFCU with the investigation.
“Our priority is ensuring victims are treated with compassion, dignity and professionalism as we work in partnership to pursue justice on their behalf,” said Chief Schenita Stewart, with the Evanston Police Department. “We appreciate our collaboration with the Illinois Attorney General’s office.”
