EVANSTON, IL — Evanston authorities are investigating a bomb threat at Endeavor Hospital, the police department announced Tuesday evening.
Police received a report about a possible bomb at the hospital, located at 2650 Ridge Ave., at approximately 5:01 p.m. When officers arrived, they located a suspicious package with wires protruding from it outside the building.
Authorities established a secure perimeter around the hospital and closed surrounding streets. Residents were asked to avoid the area until further notice.
"As a precaution, surrounding areas were evacuated and access to the area was restricted to protect patients, staff, visitors, and the public," police said in a statement.
The Evanston Fire Department is deploying a drone to provide an aerial assessment of the scene and minimize risk to emergency personnel. The Cook County Bomb Squad is also on the scene evaluating the package.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information was available.
"The Evanston Police Department appreciates the public's patience and cooperation as emergency personnel work to ensure the safety of the community," police said.
