EVANSTON, IL — Evanston residents near two intersections should plan for street closures this weekend as the city's Love Your Block initiative hosts a pair of crosswalk mural projects.
The first project, Public Green Space Crosswalk Beautification, is set for Friday through Sunday between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. at the intersection of Callan Avenue and Mulford Street. According to city officials, Callan Avenue between Kee Lee Tot Lot and Elks Park, along with Mulford Street, will be closed during the work.
The public is welcome to stop by and watch the painting process, which will feature native wildflowers and pollinators.
A second project, Slow Down on Elmwood, is scheduled for Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Monroe Street. Street closures will affect Ridge Avenue and Monroe Street, Elmwood Avenue and Madison Street, Elmwood Avenue and Monroe Street, and Elmwood Avenue and Reba Place.
Several alleys will also be closed. Those include Monroe between Ridge and Elmwood, Elmwood between Monroe and Madison, and Elmwood between Monroe and Reba.
Community volunteers are invited to join the Elmwood project, and the event information states that volunteers of all ages and skill levels are welcome.
