Evanston Cooling Centers Open During Heat Wave

EVANSTON, IL — The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory as heat indices climb to over 100 degrees in the Chicagoland this week.

Conditions are expected to get dangerously hot and humid starting Tuesday through Thursday, forecasters said.

"Stifling humidity and high temperatures will lead to dangerous heat today and tomorrow. Prolonged exposure to the dangerous heat may lead to heat-related illnesses," forecasters said.

For those looking to escape the heat and remain safe from the weather, Evanston operates cooling centers at the following locations:

• Evanston Public Library - 1703 Orrington Ave.
• Robert Crown Community Center – 1801 Main St.
• Levy Senior Center - 300 Dodge Ave.
• Prieto Community Center - 430 Asbury Ave.

While forecasters advise staying indoors during this heatwave, people who must be outside are encouraged to exercise caution. Officials recommend drinking plenty of fluids and checking in on relatives and neighbors.
