200+ Cited, 2 Arrested During Labor Day Crackdown In Evanston

EVANSTON, IL — The Evanston Police Department released the results of its Labor Day 2026 traffic enforcement campaign, which led to the arrests of three people and 215 citations.

During the July enforcement period:

• Two people were arrested;
• Police issued 45 speeding citations;
• Police issued 94 seat belt citations;
• Police issued three child safety restraint citations;
• Police issued seven no insurance citations;
• Police issued 34 distracted driving citations;
• Police issued 32 other citations.

"Through the Labor Day safety campaign, we helped make our roads safer and spread the word about the risks of impaired driving—'It's Not a Game,'" said Sergeant Amanda Wright.

Evanston police partnered with other state and local law enforcement agencies, as well as highway safety partners, for the campaign. The effort was funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
