Evanston Police Investigate Suspicious Incidents Involving Juveniles At Community Center

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston police are investigating a series of incidents at the Robert Crown Community Center involving an adult man who allegedly approached juveniles and later trespassed at the facility.

Police said officers took Kobe M. Wilson, 27, of Evanston, into custody inside the building at about 10:48 a.m. Sept. 17.

Officers responded to the community center on Sept. 5 for an incident that happened the previous day. According to police, a man approached a juvenile and offered her candy and cannabis. A parent confronted the man about his behavior, and staff removed him from the facility. Police said a photograph provided to investigators helped them identify Wilson as the suspect.

Officers returned to the community center Sept. 10 after staff reported Wilson came back. Police said officers contacted him and formally advised him that he was not allowed on the property. On Wednesday, police responded again to a report that he had returned, but he left before officers arrived.

Investigators later reviewed facility video from Wednesday, according to police. The video showed the man entering the building, sitting near a juvenile and beginning a conversation, police said. Another juvenile later joined them. After staff approached, the man and the juveniles left the area together, police said.

Staff contacted police again Sept. 17 after the man returned to the community center, police said. Officers found him inside the building and transported him to the police station for processing. Police identified him as Wilson and said he was charged with two Class A misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass to state-supported land.

At this time, no injuries to any juveniles have been reported
