
I've been playing racquetball most of my life because it's not only a great cardio workout, it's also very challenging.
Last week I decided to pick up a book called "Championship Racquetball."
It's written by Fran Davis and Jason Maninno. Jason is a top pro and Fran is currently the coach for the #1 Women's player in the world, and the #2 men's player.
I decide to crack it open and spend some time on the first chapter, Proper Grip techniques.
After spending some time, making sense of what the proper grip was, I had an ah-ha moment.
For the last 30 years I've been holding the racquet incorrectly. I couldn't wait to get to the club the next morning to try out my new discovery.
It was kind of like wearing your shoes on the wrong feet and walking around like that all day. That's how dramatic the difference was.
The thing is, I got really good at playing the wrong way, but with my current grip I could only take it so far.
I can imagine the same kind of phenomenon with your golf game, A simple grip change can be the difference between scoring a above or below par.
Once I started connecting with the ball with the new grip it was like night and day.
I had more control, more power and more consistency.
I know that for the next 6 months, I'll have to work on and force my new grip, because I can already feel my hand going back to the old grip through habit and muscle memory.
I know that if I stick with it though, it will become permanent, and that's exciting for me. Once it becomes permanent I'll really be playing at 110%!
This phenomenon is the same with any kind of change. Especially what we choose to put in our mouths.
It takes a while to reprogram ourselves with the correct foods that we need to be optimally healthy, happy, and to get to our optimal weight.
The foods that we are eating as a society are booby trapped and leading many of us down the path to obesity and diabetes.
