Renowned Physicians of Northwestern Orthopaedic Institute Join NorthShore University HealthSystem

NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) announced today it is pleased to welcome the extraordinary physicians of Northwestern Orthopaedic Institute, LLC (NOI) into its system of care. NOI physicians will become part of NorthShore’s multi-specialty physician group practice—NorthShore Medical Group—effective January 1, 2012.
“We are very excited to have this highly respected physician practice join NorthShore,” said Joseph Golbus, M.D., President, NorthShore Medical Group. “The exceptional physicians of Northwestern Orthopaedic Institute will continue to deliver comprehensive and advanced care, complementing the quality orthopaedic care currently provided at NorthShore. This partnership will also strengthen and expand our services in the region.”
“This is an exciting opportunity for our physicians to be associated with an organization that has established itself as a preeminent health provider in the Chicago area,” said Mark K. Bowen, M.D., orthopaedic surgeon and Co-President of NOI. “We look forward to expanding our practice in the Chicago suburbs and enhancing the full spectrum of comprehensive subspecialty orthopaedic care at NorthShore.”

The NorthShore-NOI integration will combine the excellence and experience of nearly two dozen board certified orthopaedic surgeons providing a complete range of orthopaedic care, including sports medicine, joint replacement, hip arthroscopy, spine surgery, foot and ankle surgery, hand and upper extremity surgery and physical medicine and rehabilitation. Physicians will utilize the latest medical, surgical, pre/post-operative care and rehabilitative treatments for bone and joint disorders; and offer innovative surgical techniques, including less invasive and computer-assisted surgeries.
The integration further strengthens NorthShore’s commitment to provide highly customized and streamlined patient care through a multidisciplinary approach. With this integration, NorthShore plans to develop a joint neurologic and orthopaedic spine care program. “This partnership will enhance the future of spine care by offering comprehensive expertise and the latest technology and treatment including operative, non-operative and minimally invasive options,” said Srdjan Mirkovic, M.D., NOI spine surgeon.

NOI physicians will continue to see patients at their Chicago (680 North Lake Shore Drive, Suite 924) and Glenview (2501 Compass Road, Suite 125) offices and provide surgical services at their present Chicago locations. In addition, the NorthShore Department of Orthopaedic Surgery plans to establish a comprehensive outpatient and surgery center at NorthShore Skokie Hospital. The new center will offer patients care, easy access and convenience in a portion of the 120-thousand square-foot Ambulatory Care Center, currently under construction and scheduled for completion in December 2012.
In the past year, NorthShore has added 12 physician practices and more than 40 new physicians and thousands of patients. The integrations have strengthened the Medical Group’s capability to provide NorthShore’s patient population with leading-edge primary and multi-specialty care throughout Cook and Lake Counties. The Medical Group currently has more than 700 physicians at over 80 office locations.
