Apartment Fire Displaces 18 in Evanston
Units from several fire departments responded to a box alarm on Sherman Avenue Monday morning.

EVANSTON, IL - Eighteen people were displaced from their residences Monday morning when a fire broke out at a large apartment building in the 600 block of Sherman Ave. in Evanston.
Flames were first spotted by local firefighters after they arrived on scene around 9:30 a.m. from an apartment on the second floor of the building at the corner of Sherman and Reba Place, according to Evanston Now.
The fire spread from the second floor to the third floor of the three-story building, and then ignited wooden porches at the back of the building. Six units sustained significant damage, with 18 residents being displaced.

Firefighters from neighboring communities responded to the blaze, which was upgraded to a box alarm once the first units arrived.
The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes, CBS reported.
