Three outstanding arts students from Evanston Township High School,Patricia Camaya, Jessica Cardemas and Gabbo Senno, were honored for their expertise in various arts concentrations, as well as their contributions to underclassmen at the high school. The three were recognized with the Ted Van Zelst award from the Kiwanis Club of Evanston on Tuesday, Oct 11. Each student received a certificate marking the occasion, a book on leadership and a $25 gift card. The awards were established in 2007 with over 200 students honored since then.

ETHS Fine Arts Department chair Nick Gehl also thanked the club for a grant which will enable 8-10 students to have the benefit of music lessons this year.

The students and members also received a civics lesson from State Representative Robyn Gabel on the practicalities of getting bills passed, the background on the budget crisis in Springfield and the breakdown on sources of state revenues. She also reminded the audience that Illinois boasts the 5th largest GNP in the country, despite its current fiscal difficulties.
