Attempted Abduction of Teen Girl Reported in Evanston

A man approached the girl and tried to cover her face with a towel Thursday night on Howard Street, police said.

EVANSTON, IL - A 16-year-old girl from Chicago was attacked by a man who attempted to abduct her Thursday night on the Evanston side of Howard Street.

Police in the suburb say the girl was walking home in the 1500 block of Howard when she was approached by a white man who "attempted to cover the victim's face with a white rag or towel."

The girl, who was not injured in the incident, was able to flee on foot as the offender headed northbound through a parking lot in the 1300 block of Howard.

Police describe the suspect as a short white man in his 50s, weighing about 130 pounds and wearing a brown hat and vest.
