Bike The Ridge Is Back This Weekend

EVANSTON, IL — Evanston residents and visitors of all ages are invited to take part in the annual Bike the Ridge on Sunday, when Ridge Avenue will close to vehicle traffic for the community bike event.

The free, non-competitive ride will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along Ridge Avenue from Howard to Church streets. Mayor Daniel Biss is scheduled to kick off the event at 9 a.m. at the intersection of Ridge Avenue and Howard Street. It will be the final time Biss opens the event as mayor.

During the four-hour event, cyclists will be able to ride on a car-free stretch of Ridge Avenue set aside for non-motorized bicycles. Community members who are not riding are encouraged to walk along Ridge Avenue sidewalks to support participants.

Children younger than 18 must wear a bike helmet, as required by city laws.

In addition to the ride itself, participants are invited to visit Ridgeville Park, 908 Seward St., for live music, food trucks and other community activitie.

Residents who live along Ridge Avenue are being asked to prepare for temporary access limits during the event. Driveways along Ridge Avenue will not be accessible from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 27. Residents who plan to use their cars during those hours should park on a side street before 8 a.m.
