Bike Theft Suspect Caught by Evanston Police

Police say the 20-year old was seen riding a bike that was stolen from an Evanston garage over Labor Day weekend.

EVANSTON, IL - Police in Evanston chased down and apprehended a suspect in a garage burglary that included three bicycles reported stolen over Labor Day weekend.

Police noticed Demarco Alexander, 20, Evanston riding one of the bicycles at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday in the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue and attempted to stop him on the possibility he had an outstanding warrant.

Alexander fled, police said, and was taken into custody in the backyard of a nearby residence. His warrant had expired, but the bicycle matched one reported stolen from a garage in the 1300 block of Greenleaf Street the day before.

The victim in that incident admitted to inadvertently leaving their overhead door open.

Once captured, Alexander was charged with burglary and disobedience to police in a public place.
