Lula B. Sherman (“LBS”) United Methodist Church is proud to sponsor its 17th Fisk University Choir Benefit Concert on Friday October 17, 2025 at 7:00 pm. The Concert will be hosted by its covenant partner First United Methodist Church, 516 Church Street, Evanston, IL. “LBS is proud to sponsor Fisk University for the 17th time during the choirs annual fall tour.”, said Rev. Dr. Aaron McLeod, Esq.
LBS will also honor its Annual Isibani Award Winners at the event. The Isibani Awards (taken from the Zulu word for beacon or light), seek to honor leaders in the community that have served as beacons of light and hope through their impactful work in the areas of Stewardship, Business, Education, Community Service and the Arts.
- The Marty and Donna Long Stewardship Award: Laurice Bell, Director of The Shorefront Legacy Center;
- The Dalano O’Banion Arts Excellence Award: Tim Rhoze, Director of The Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre;
- The John Otis Whitmore Education Award: Willie Shaw thirty-six (36) year educator and Chair of Civic Engagement for the Evanston/Northshore Chapter of the NAACP.
- The Venita E. Fields Business Excellence Award: Clarence and Wendy Weaver, Co-founders/owners of the C&W Ice Cream Parlor and the C&W Market Foundation, and
- The Lula B. Sherman Service Award: Mary and Larry Gavin, Co-founders of the Evanston RoundTable Newspaper.
