Here’s some hot jazz for a cool autumn evening.
On Tuesday, November 11, Donovan Mixon will bring four top Chicago Jazz players to Evanston for his next “Donovan’s Garage” event. It’s the latest in Mixon’s initiative to introduce the rich variety of Chicago jazz to Evanston audiences.
(Count ‘em! To date Donovan has brought more than 60 of Chicago’s top jazz players to Evanston for these free shows. Every show is different.)
Doors open at 6pm, music starts at 7pm at the AKAR Auditorium, 2715 Hurd Ave. in Evanston.

Donovan Mixon on guitar: Performed worldwide, lives in Evanston. Long-time player in the Chicago jazz scene. Created “Donovan’s Garage” events as a community service to Evanston.
Fred Simon on piano: Known for his distinct contemporary jazz style, blending jazz, pop sensibility, and European impressionism, he has released numerous albums and collaborated with notable figures across various genres.
Jim Cox on bass: Toured with Earl "Fatha" Hines, worked regularly with Marian McPartland, as well as with Rosemary Clooney, Michael Feinstein, Debbie Boone, Liza Minelli, Lyric Opera of Chicago (as well as with Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop.)
Steve Corley on drums: Member of the Chris Greene Quartet, recognized as one of the best jazz bands in Chicago.
Special guests are the ceramic artists Christopher Whittington and Mieke Zuiderweg. Their work will be exhibited in the AKAR lobby with the artists on hand. The AKAR doors open at 6 for the art exhibition. The music starts at 7.
