Artist Statement
Val Zee is an artist based in Evanston, Illinois and the founder of Smart Art Studios. Since 2004 she’s built a creative career that’s taken her from decorative painting to teaching art and developing her own studio practice. Her mixed media work explores women and the messages we absorb through advertising and popular culture. Val earned her B.A. in Studio Art from Northeastern Illinois University. For more than twenty years she has taught art in schools, senior communities and community art spaces. She has seen firsthand how making art builds confidence, connection and self-expression. She believes creativity is a powerful form of communication and that everyone has a story worth telling. Click here to visit Val’s Portfolio Page.
Art in Business Initiative
Evanston Made partners with Evanston businesses to curate spaces with artwork created by local artists. Showcasing art at locations throughout the community is an excellent way to raise visibility and awareness for Evanston’s Creative Community. We have experience curating a variety of venues and spaces, from public facilities to private homes, and install and rotate art according to the host’s needs. Learn more at evanstonmade.org
